Hi, I'm new to the forum. I bought a 92 F250 4x4 last month to use in the mountains of Colorado. I live in Virginia so I don't have access to the truck. I have done quite a bit of research on your forum and have a better handle on what to expect with this old truck. I want to take a code reader with me when I go out there for a week next month. I downloaded the manual for the Equus 3145. The manual says it covers this year F250 for 8500 and less GVW only. My truck is 8600 GVWR 5.8 Liter. Has anyone had experience with code readers and this one in particular on the 8600 GVW? Is there a difference in the ODB 1 or its connection on the heavier trucks? My real question is will I have a code reader that works when I get to Colorado?
The equus 3145 will do it, all F and E series trucks use the same EEC-4 EFI system all the way up to 1995 and up to '97 for the HD trucks(over 8500lb).
Just wondering where the jumper wire needs to be installed? I have rescently bought the same code reader and am struggling with the same issue of my truck being over 8500 gvw.
if the check engine light is not on, a code reader will not do you any good. the old eec style computers do not store past codes, they will only show existing problem codes.
no CEL, no codes to read.
I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that EEC-IV computers store codes for a certain amount of time, even after the problem is resolved. These would be shown after the separator flash during a key on engine off (KOEO) test.
