F-150, 250, 350, C-10, K-2500, etc. are all MARKETING designations by the various manufacturers. Tonnage is a compelety obsolete designation that no one in the industry uses anymore. It really stopped being useful after WWII. For exampe, the 2004 F-150 with the 7700 GVW package. What is it? With an unladen weight of lets say 4700, that leaves 3000 for payload. That is one and one half tons, not one half ton.

I thought that combo was ment to hual a lot of wieght!
So even thogh mine has Dual pistion calapers/ 5-3" wide HD leaf springs 3.73 trac lok and a Np435
witha GVW of 8000lbs it is still LD??

Diesel engine, crew cab, or 4x4 has no effect on the GVWR, but it does have alot of effect on the actual scale weight of the truck, and therefore has alot of effect on the payload of the truck. For a diesel engine, add ~700 lbs. For 4x4, add ~300 lbs. For CrewCab, oh I guess add about 300 lbs. As you can see, that's about 1100 lbs less payload than a Reg Cab 2wd gas engine truck.
As an example, my '92 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 long bed single rear wheel gas V8 truck weighs about 6000 lbs completely empty and usually weighs about 6500 lbs in normal driving (gas, people and other stuff I normally carry inside the truck). That leaves me with a usable payload of roughly 2700 lbs. My truck with a diesel engine would have a payload of about 2000 lbs.
A diesel F250 has even less payload, as the truck doesn't weigh much less than an F350 but the GVWR is less (8800 vs 9200 for my year truck). So an '87-'97 F250 SuperCab 4x4 diesel longbed would have a payload of about 1600 lbs, plus the difference in weight between a CrewCab and a SuperCab (F250's weren't available in CrewCab LongBed in those years), which is probably not more than 150 lbs. If the truck has a ShortBed I guess you could gain about 100 lbs of payload, but have less room in the bed to put the extra weight.
F350 Dually's have GVWR's of about 10,000-12,000 lbs, depending on year and chassis options. Dually's usually have about 1500 lbs more payload than a similarly configurated (cab, engine and drive type) single wheel one ton and about 2000 lbs more than a 3/4 ton.

Because the FT-391 and Clark five speed is considered medium duty along with the much beefier frame in the F-450 and up series.
