I am trouble shooting a squeak when I push the clutch in or let it out. I have it boiled down to 1 piece. The clutch pedal has a joint on it and that joint connects to a rod that goes in and out of a black plastic piece. That black piece is shaped like a cylinder, is about 4 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. This piece also has a wiring harness with connector going to it.
Thanks for the reply. I may just replace it. Nothing worse than a squeaky clutch. I am curious as to what it does and why it would have a harness on it.
It's to make sure you have the clutch depressed so you don't start your truck in gear. I took mine off because it broke so I just run without one, but I heard that if you do this the cruise control won't work.
So far everyone seems to be talking about the CPP (clutch pedal position) switch. 3 sides of the switch are actually just a U-shaped clip. Pry the clip out gently on once side and remove the U-shaped portion. Then pull on the other part and slide it off the rod between the pedal and firewall. Once it's off, push the clutch in and out again to see if the squeak is gone.
Here's what the inside of mine looked like
That is supposed to be a long continuous spring on each side, not the stacked springs you see. (This was the reason my cruise control started acting up). Push on the plate so the springs compress after you pull the CPP to find out if there are any squeaks in the springs. You could oil the springs or grease the shaft the CPP goes on, but I'm guessing that's not your real issue.
I'd check to see if your firewall is flexing and causing the squeak, or if it's maybe the clutch return spring.
Disclaimer: The above pic and description is based on my ZF-6. I'm assuming the ZF-5 is the same. My memory is not good enough to be sure.

Wow. Thanks Chris.
Funny you mention the firewall flex. I think the clutch switch is squeaking because the firewall may be flexing so the shaft isn't going straight in and out. When I press my clutch in I can feel my brake pedal shift a tad.*
Now that I know what I am looking at, I may just have to take things out 1 by 1 and see which one makes the noise stop.
I initially thought it was the return spring but no amount of grease helped.
Who knows, now that I see the inside of the clutch switch, I don't know if that is the source of the noise or if it's just getting translated there.
if that is the problem i would bypass the switch and chunk the switch in the trash. I don't have mine anymore and everything works like its supposed to. the cruise control works. the cruise turns off when i press the clutch and all. I always start my truck in neutral so i'm not worried about starting it w/ it in gear.

I had done the same, but my cruise wouldnt shut off by its self took me stepping on the brake to do the it.
