I'm thinking about building a storage box and mount it on the bed floor against the cab. I thought this would be pretty handy to have to put folding chairs and other loose stuff in. Has anyone else put one in their rigs? Thanks.
I have don't have a pic of it installed in the truck here at work but heres a in progress pic. Will redo it sooner or later to get chrome strips to match up with strips in bed but works well and looks decent way it is. Mine hides the 20 gal fuel cell and battery box, with enough room for other stuff as well

I like the boxes or bed cover that people have made that look like something other than a box. Examples I've seen included a vintage flatbed truck with a hollow stack of 2x4 lumber with the top layer of 2x4s hinged so it could be opened. Wide straps hid the seam of the lid. Another was a Model A pickup with a pile of grain in the box. The guy took a piece of cavas, inserted a pole in the middle to form a slight hill shape and inpregnated the cavas with resin and a layer of corn on top. It looked like the truck was hauling a pile of corn to market but it was hinged in the front and the guy used it to store chairs and a cooler. I've also seen a few vintage trucks with old Coke coolers in the back to store a battery.
The old ice chests are pretty cool. I was originally going to use one as a battery box but, Holy Cow! they have become pretty pricey when you find one at a swap meet or antique shop.
If you keep you eyes open the old luggage carriers come up for sale on Ebay now and again. I'm talking about the luggage crates that were used on cars in the 20's and 30's...they kinda look like old steamer trunks

Wow, what a great idea! I think I'll make up a fake pile of manure, to go with my manure spreader grille!!

The old ice chest is a good idea. I have an old Coke ice chest but the problem is finding a way to secure it to the bed to keep it from sliding and/or disappearing.
There are a couple of pictures of mine in my gallery. I have had the box for about 5 years and not sure what I would do without it. I have it divided with my jack and a few other things in one covered compartment. Also have the spare bolted down to the floor now. If I think of it I will update my gallery with some more pictures.
When I get around to putting the nice wood floor and polished strips (they have been in the basement for a few years) I have a 30's era steel trunk that I will install. I have no idea when that will happen, this just works great.
well I went to several shows and saw diamond plate and plywood boxes that just didn't look right. So decided on building my box. although there are some really cools ideas in this thread. I'm just not that creative
Take a look at the box Julie built for the tongue of her trailer. If it's not in her gallery, maybe she can repost the pics. Really nice looking work, and it looks period correct.
Its a PPG color DAR16640 Alfa Romeo Blue Stripe. PO said it was a color used for their racing stripes. Sad part is I can't tell if those are sand marks or brush strokes all over it. Looks great 10 feet away just don't get any closer. Really tore between repainting it that color or HOK Candy wild cherry, when i get it ready to repaint. I love that color
