Well i may be getting my very late, before my time, great grandpas '72 f100 to restore, what i want to know is, is it worth rebuilding the stock 289 and keeping it a #'s matching? or is it more worth while to just get a 302 and put a little go in it and rebuild it with mondern comforts?
and just to give you all an idea,it has been sitting 15 years or more without moving or even been turned over.
Thanks
1) 289s last year was 1967, so if you have a SBF, it is probably a 302 or some variation.
2) According to Numberdummy, he who knows all things parts, there are no numbers to match. The VIN/engine number match was a GM thing, not Ford. Even if it was, imo it would mean very little on this vehicle. (think Corvettes or limited production BB Chevelles etc)
It's worth whatever you are willing to do to it to satisfy yourself.
Bring it up to this level and it will be worth something to others:
me myself, i could go stock, or overly modified, like a came so lumpy the whole truck shakes, with a BB, but as it was my grandpas dads, i think this one will be stock"ish" of course im gonna make it a sleeper
