289 HiPo

I have acquired a 289 hipo. It needs a complete rebuild (when i say complete i mean complete). I was wondering what makes a 289 hipo a 289 hipo. Another words what is the difference between 289 and a 289 hipo. And will it be worth the grand of so its going to cost to rebuild?
Thankyou

$2000 for a set of main bearing caps? Seems like rather too much unless one also finds an NOS 289 block, adds a swatch of orange paint, and hey voila, we have an "NOS" hipo block.

$2000 for main caps? Bet the seller got stiffed on that sale. You can buy a new sportsman block for that and have the same thing, just with a later casting date. Not even 427 cross bolt caps get that far up.

Only thing I saw wrong was the mention of them not having hardened pushrods. They did use the same pushrods as the std 289 with the slotted heads and these had hardened pushrods due to the slots.

I think you mean the buyer got stiffed, the seller made out like a bandit, I couldn't believe how many people actually bid on this..
