Out of curiosity, what is the spread on the front framerails, outside to outside on the early trucks? Also, if you can measure from the framerail to the inside of the fender lip. I'm wondering how far off it is. Not disputing your input, just morbid curiosity.
If I remember correctly the F-1s are 32 inches wide in front. Even on a Volare install you have to notch the top frame rail for the steering box and the torsion bar adjustment on the driver's side. I'm running a 15x6 inch wheel with zero offset on my 48 with a volare and clearance is good. A wheel with more positive offset would be questionable. The MII suspensions, however, are narrower and you can run wider wheels up front if you want. Sorry, I don't have the frame rail to fender lip measurement...
the CV panther suspension comes stock with a VERY offset steel wheel already stock, so offset that i would believe it would be hard to find anything more offset. i doubt they would make it like that from the factory if it had any more effect on tire wear and it sure cant screw up the geometry if it bolts to the truck exactly how it came out, stock wheels and all.
im not saying that this would be the best choice or a choice at all because i dont know the deminsions of the early trucks frames and fender widths, i was just saying that it may be worth measuring for yourself like i did. i read alot saying that this front end was to wide for my truck but its in and rides, handles, and looks great.
You are right if you are using the factory designed wheel offset the geometry will be fine. The problem comes when a reverse offset wheel that was not part of the original geometry design is used to compensate for an IFS that is to wide.
