I have a '92 Bronco with the 5.8L in it and the starter is not engaging. I pulled the starter and had it tested and it's good. Power is reaching it and both solenoids are engaging but the starter won't turn over.
I unbolted the starter from the block and had a friend start it and the drive will barely move. The battery is good and we even tried jumping it with no effect.
I pulled the positive battery cable and tested it with an voltage meter and it checks out fine. I haven't been able to pull the negative cable yet.
I'm thinking it has to be the negative cable or am I missing something?
That could be a possibility. If you are not getting a good ground, then you can't have much "juice" going into the starter. i have replaced both of my battery cables with 1 guage cables and have not had any of those problems.
About a week ago, I've noticed some flickering of my voltage meter on the dash. Also, a day or two before this happened, the oil pressure gauge dropped completely to nothing when the brakes were applied. The same thing occured when the vehicle was turned sharply without applying brakes. As soon as you got off the brakes or straightened out, the gauge quickly returned to normal range.
