Okay this is my first attemp to post image or video hope it works. Now to the problem. Took out my 360 put in a 390 that I picked up. 390 ran great for about a week now it makes a loud nasty rattle tapping noise. You can hear it when i pul the camera away from engine and put it under truck. Any ideas would be helpful. The rattle isn't consistant. sounds worse from under truck. [IMG][/IMG]
It sounds like you have major problems in that engine. Most likely bad bearings, rods and mains.
You didn't mention the oil pressure reading and it sounds like there is none. As bad as it sounds I suggest that you change the engine back to the 360 and rebuild the 390 completely.
Speaking of oil, shouldn't I see oil spraying all over the place with the valve cover off?
My one experience with an engine where a rod bearing went was to hear a very loud metallic clank as the top of the piston would hit the quench area of the cyl head at TDC. Your noises sound different, maybe some lifters not pumped up.
I'd probably make work for myself this way, but I'd pull the pan before pulling the engine and check for a loose oil pump, loose oil pump pick-up and excessive play in the connecting rod ends at the crank.
my oil pressure reads 2/3 of the way up on the gauge and twords High when I rev it and drove it. Oil was flying and coming out all the ports. Looks like the 360 goes back in until i have money and time to properly rebuild the 390. But I like the 390 so much more. Oh well ran great when it did.

I would not assume the worst. Personally, I'm thinking loose torque converter bolts. Is it an automatic? Maybe at least open up the oil filter and inspect it before pulling the engine.
Nope I have a t-18 4 speed. Had my friend and his buddy come over. Tracked it down to rod bearings. Had to move truck to spot to work on it and yes had to drive it just a bit rattle is consistant with rpm now. Engine will be pulled and 360 sadly goes back in. Now to find money for rebuild.
