Lifter Help

Any one have any good techenices in getting stuck lifters out? any help would be appericated. i rented the tool from autozone but its not working very good bc the engine has alot of old buildup.

You could turn the engine by hand on the crank bolt which will turn the camshaft and help to lift the lifters a bit.

The problem is the crud built up on the bottom of the lifter, cranking the engine over won't help get past that crud.

I'm assuming you are doing this with the intake on? Might have to take it off and just "walk" the lifter out with a pair of vice-grips. Be careful though, you don't want to tear up the lifter bore.

A trick I've used in the past is to take aerosol brake cleaner, spray it between the lifter and lifter bore then grab the lifter with a pair of channel locks and work the lifter out. This seems to have worked better in the past. It looks like the manufacturers have "toned down" and weakened the formulas they use.
I've also used spray paint stripper and electric contact cleaner with mixed results.

im doing it with the intake off but its just been sitting for a wile and has alot of build up. Ill try yalls ideas
