M5OD Freeze Plug

I poked my head up to look at the shift rail plugs when I bought the truck in late-May. Could only see two of them, but was happy when I saw steel plugs.

Yesterday I smell smoke and AFT is almost pouring off of the tailpiece. Took the floor plate off and saw this:



Got the camera in better where my head wouldn't fit:



Took the cover off and the plugs were installed with RTV & one stake. Pulled them out, cleaned everthing up, & installed with RTV, staking in four spots. I hope they don't fall out. Maybe I should have epoxied them in. I did fill in each plug recess inside the trans so there's that much more RTV keeping them in.

Hey, at least you caught it before all the fluid dumped out and burned the tranny up
