I have a F250 with an engine in it that has a label saying it's a 1977 351 and the body that says it's a 1980. When I bought the starter for this I told Carquest it was a 77. It is a 4 wheel drive and automatic. The starter worked great for about three months then it wouldn't engage anymore. Took it off and half the drive gear teeth were ground down. They replaced that starter and now it has happened again. Once more after about three months. Both starters worked great when installed. Is the starter keeping the gear extended and thus the ring gear grinding it off? Maybe it's the wrong starter? Could the ring gear have some problem and if so how doI check that? Thanks
