looking for a little input on shocks before i buy. my budget is roughly 200 bucks for all 4 shocks. the truck is a 97 4x4 off road and is my dd. it is a work truck though and sees quite a bit of hauling and off road driving. hopefully i will be getting another ride so this truck will become a straight work/ snow truck.
the sensetracs from orielies for the front are about 50 bucks each and the set that i want for the back are 110 for both. they have a 1200 pound ride leveling spring on them which i think would come in handy when pulling trailers. does anyone have any experience with these shocks? i like the sound of the extra load capacity for the rear which is why im not looking at the ranchos that came on the fx4 trucks. im open to any and all suggestions
Being strickly a road ride, I just put them on without the springs you reference and like them very much.
1200 lb spring x 2 or even total is way to much for a 1/2 ton weight rating for any use.
The tongue weight rating for towing is only 600 lbs max.
You should not apply any more weight than the truck rateing and the ride would be like a buck board, empty with those springs in place..

i hadnt thought about that. i know the toung weight isnt supposed to be much, but sometimes loading toung heavy is unavoidable, but i do avoid it as much as possible. where i normaly run into trouble is when i load up a derby car. the trailer i pull has a tire rack on the front and then they put the car on motor first and then load the bed with as much as they can (torch bottles, water jugs, jacks, tool boxes, trailer ramps etc.). so with a load like that i squat pretty bad even with the towing package.... but it is better then my girlfriend's dad's 98 w/out towing package.
but for the most part when it comes to pulling trailers im pretty good about getting the load centered on the trailer. i just hate how when i load the bed or get a car a litlle too far forward how my truck squats.
would i be better off with overload springs instead? would that affect my ride as much as the coil over shocks? im not terribly worried about ride if i end up getting another car for my dd. worst comes to worst they should let me return them right? lol the only reason i really asked is because they are the same price as the standard shocks for the rear.
