So I noticed a little white smoke yesterday when start up then today got home from 22 mile drive from work and had some antifreeze at the degas cap???????
Well my egr is blocked of on the exhaust side where the coolant still runs thru it, can it still fail on me? A guy at worked told me to unscrew my oil fill cap and see if it is puffing like a train said that if it was normally that means head gaskets, so I did and it bairly had any smoke coming out so went to my neighbor whom also as a 6.0 and his looked the same. So now dont know why its doing this.
You need your eot/ect readings. A plugged oil cooler can still starve an egr cooler even though the exhaust is blocked off. Common misconception is that bypassing the egr cooler eliminates all the problems. You still need a good flowing oil cooler and then install a coolant filter. JMHO, cheezit or anyone else feel free to add or tell me I'm full of it. If you feel I'm full of it state why, don't just say it.

That test really doesn't mean anything - about head gaskets anyway.
Pull the EGR valve and see if there is any coolant under it. Park w/ the front of the vehicle lower than the back.
Readings of the coolant temp and the oil temp are a good idea regardless of the EGR system status (intact or delete). It is hard to imagine a good EGR cooler failing after you have blocked off the source of the hot exhaust gas, but if it was weak to begin with, it could fail.
Also, check to see if you can smell coolant or fuel in the exhaust smoke.
okay well I am thinking about just go ahead and do the oil cooler but should I rebuild it or go new. While I am there was wondering if I should go ahead and do the head gaskets and arp studs I have been told that stock head gaskets will be good for me but was wondering if black onx are better, and should I get my heads decked also. Think I will go ahead and do the full egr delete also so I dont have to worry about the cooler anymore. Just to be on the safe side. Can I do the head gaskets my self?
the at work ya dont listen to him... sorry but has to be said. if it some like a train from that orface then the engine would be dusted.
so far as the plug going bad in the back of the egr cooler yours would not be the first to fail. thats were the delete kit is better.
to test it pressure test or vacuum test the cooling system. for the record im a fan of the vacuum test. cant hydrolock an engine that way.
Yeah not listening to the guy at work no more, more he talks the dumber he sounds. But I want go ahead and do the arp studs and oil cooler now so that it is more reliable.

fixing things before you know whats broke wont fix the issues at hand. im all in favor of studs and what nots but im also a firm beliver in knowing what it is that im chasing so I dont have to do more work and spen more of someones money for them.
