Trans. Temp. Gauge Problem. HELP!!!

Hi, about a year ago I bought a 2002 F250 with a 5.4 engine and automatic transmission. With it having close to 65k miles on it. I took it to the local Ford dealer to have some PM done. One thing i had done was a transmission flush. Just the flush no filter change. This is where the problem started. When I picked up the truck I noticed right away the trans temp gauge was already at the half way mark and the coolant showed no reading. I thought this was odd because it had been about 6 hours since the called me to pickup the truck. So, I would think that would be enough time for the trans fluid to cool off since the engine coolant was. I went in and asked the service guy and he said it is just really hot outside. I am not buying it! I took it home and it sat over night and the gauge still shows a reading right away the next morning. I have never notice this happen even when it is really hot outside. I am not sure what to do since the dealer seems to be blowing me off. Any ideas? Are they right and am I nuts? Thanks for any help.

Yeah, they are right. The gauge is calibrated to read right in the middle of normal any time the transmission is warmer than 50°F. If it's warmer than that where you are the gauge is going to go to the middle as soon as the key is on.

I can't explain why you never noticed that before, but that is how it works.

Thanks for the info. If the dealer would have answered my question with what you said I would have never gave it a second thought. It is crazy that I have never noticed that before. Maybe I was being to critical of the work that was done and was trying to find something wrong. Thanks again.

The dealer probably doesn't know.

Your oil pressure guage works the same way. If you have more then 7 psi of oil pressure it shows normal in the middle of your gauge. I installed a mechanical gauge with the stock gauge connected. The mechanical gauge would almost read zero before the stock gauge would change it's reading. Aftermarket gauges are a MUST.
