My OA

So, thanks to a very generous member here, I got an OA done with Schaeffer's. Here is my report:

Hopefully it isn't hard to read. Everything came in as normal. Not sure exactly what the numbers mean, in terms of the wear metals..or if anything looks higher than desirable.

Looks good Lisa. I'm surprised they didn't increase your drain interval, but I don't know what they base that on. They always increase mine, I'm up to a 12K interval but that's with Shaeffers 9000.

Just seeing this now Lisa, lookin good and glad to help. Your wear metals look better than mine but I ran a 9,750 interval. The oil guys will be by but I don't see why you couldn't go to 7-8000 mile intevals but thats all up to you..

Could be because it was on Rotella oil?

Thanks again Mike! glad to see all was well especially with that motor approaching 200k. Interested to see what the oil gurus have to say.

Lisa,

I see you are using Rotella 5w40, I know many use this oil because of it's quality. I have 88,500 on my 2002 F350 and always use 15w40 (Usually Delo) and the MC oil filter. When using the 5w40 did you have any make up oil too add between changes? I read where some do and some don't I guess it depends on each truck? If I decide to switch over to 5w40 I will also go with Rotella in the blue botttle.

Thanks
Bill

Did you turn the report over Lisa? I thought on the back of the page they had a chart that told you what some of the numbers meant. Click Here for my latesy UOA from Schaeffers. If you go to page 2 of the attachment, it's got the back of the sheet scanned in.

Hi Bill. I, too, was afraid to switch to synthetic for fear it was a thinner oil and that I would lose oil between changes. It was all bologna. I saw no difference between changes when I switched. Truck likes this synthetic MUCH better than the 15w-40 and it sure is nice to have it in there to prevent the romps when the weather gets cold.

I feel like a dweeb now. I didn't even look at the back. I looked at your report, and why are your Wear Metals numbers so much better than mine?

I don't know, it may be because it is not syn. but like I said I don't know what they consider when they give a recommendation.

Anyway I don't want to get into the oil debate. When I ran dino, I never ran it past 5K, but than I never had it tested.

I just looked at my records and found a sheet with three OA's on it, here it is

opps that had my address on it

The additional drain interval has to have something to do with the anti-wear additives that syn has over dino.

I don't let the grass grow under mine. I really think that has something to do with it. It usually takes me 6 - 8 weeks to hit the 5,000 mile oil change mark. If you notice, that report was on Rotella 15w-40.

Change your oil every 2 months, and I bet your lab results look pretty good too.

I was doing blackstone OA's and was using rotella 15w 40 and I was up to 9k mile oil intervals on it. Then I switched to Schaeffers 5w 40 synthetic and things changed.

I have "whitebuffalo" be the salesman on my oa. Rich has been a great person to talk to and discuss oil issues with. I'm sure he will see the thread soon and give his opinion. He works with schaeffer so he will be able to explain all the INS and outs of your oa.
I'll be sending in a trans and oil sample next week actually.

One thing I'll give for advice. Call schaeffer and order a box of oa sample kits. They come out to only 13$ each and it's well worth the initial cost. And also make sure you write in the notes next time you want an account number (not just 999999) That way you will get all your previous results on the same paper for a more easy comparison.

Lisa,

Glad to hear your truck is doing well with the Rotella 5w40. I know you and your truck are happier without the Romps. Good Deal.
