Hi Gang!
I have the 2000SD 7.3. She started smoking a little before I did about 400+ mi weekend. Now she's smoking pretty bad(greyish/blue-oil i figure). Used her yesterday for work, not to many miles. Oil level was a tad low, all gages good. Just as I pulled in my driveway, The near turbo puked out motor oil? Am I in trouble hear or easy fix? I don't even know a diesel machanic around hear in the Bronx NY? Thanks for any opinions
I hope im wrong but the turbo seal could be out, does your turbo have a lot of slack in it? Might want to be carefull driving that... Deere's like to blow up when the turbo starts atomizing engine oil and pumping it into the intake, but thats not a Powerstroke either. Somebody who knows more than me will say something about that... Id kind of like to know, anybody ever heard of that before?
Good luck man hope its something easy to fix and not a turbo.
I'm pretty handy but would probably need correct guidance from an experienced mechanic.
Plus my back would not last 10 minutes under the hood.
Would this be OK to drive a short distance to a Mechanic?
Do you have oil dripping out of the exhaust? Take the intake tube of the intake side of the turbo and see if you can move the wheel in and out and side to side.
Side to side play is ok as long as the wheel don't touch the housing. In and out play is not good. You need to take the turbo off and apart to see how much damage has been done to it. Clay has the kits, and there is a procedure to rebuild it. Here is the link for the rebuild. This is a Van turbo but it is the same. LINK
