air conditioning hose replacement problems

I have a 1990 ford ranger the a/c compressor block doesn't fit right with the new hose and leaked when i went to recharge it. how does it fit on without leaking is it an o ring or is it suposed to seal on it's own. any answers would be helpful thanks

Im not 100% positive, but on earlier years I believe the O rings were on the hose ends...and at times when removed sometimes they stayed in the rear of the compressor..just all flattened out and inside the holes where the lines go...look at the area again closely as if theres no O rings...thats the problem...

i believe on my old f100 some fittings are flared, and they suck azz, supposed to seal from just torque, who knows. but if i were you i would look into a machine shop near you somewhere that custom makes hoses any length or type of fitting you could possibly need, i did, and it didnt cost much, like $50 each hose. refrigerant is getting real expensive, i would do a vacuum leak test for 1 hr before charging.

Remove the other oring for comparison and replace both of them. Some have a round cross section and some have an oval shaped cross section. You need to be sure and use the right ones. The orings go into the grooves on the compressor before mounting the hose manifold.
