I am brand new to Ford and the V10. Have a 2003 F250SD with less then 20K on it. I'm looking for ideas to squeak a few more mpg out of it. I use it mostly for going to work and towing a 5th Wheel. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
These guys have you covered already. Tuners, intakes, headers, you name it, generally do not improve MPGs enough to make up the difference.
I put a 93 octane performance tune in my V10 from Mike at 5-star, and I went from 5 MPG around town (yes 5!) to 6.5, but it requires 93 octane. An 18% improvement in stop-and-go mileage, but pay 10% more for the 93 octane. At that rate, it would take a long LONG time to make up the cost of the tuner, but for me it's more fun.
And, by the way, what I experience will probably NEVER happen for you. So don't even try it with MPGs in mind.
Thanks for all the positive feedback. Just kidding, it was kinda what I expected, but it never hurts to ask. Besides, getting to drive that big beauty is way more reward then what gas may cost.
Keep everything in good running order and don't run tires with aggresive tread and are oversize. In theory a 235/85 should get better mpg than a 265/75 if both tires have the same tread pattern.
