2WD Dilemma
6" Front / 4" Rear Lift Kit - Ford Excursion (99-04) [/w MX Shocks] [K4022BMX] | $1,302.45
It will lift my 2wd truck but add 6 in front and 4 in the back
I'm only trying to get and extra 2-3 inches to fit a set of 275/65R20 which is a 34" tire
or a 286/60R20 which is a 33.5 tire.
SO i figured I would add a 2 " spacer on the front
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...#ht_1633wt_939
and a Front Spring Part # -- 2C3Z-5310-WA (Z Code) which is out of a 03 F350 2WD . VIN 1FTSW30F23EA42609
Can someone do me a favor and look it up to see if my 03 eddie bauer is the same spring or if this one is taller?
for a total of 3 " if that F350 spring is 1 inch taller then mine.
Then go with a B code on the back with a RAS. How much lift would this give me from a stock 2wd truck with out playing with different leveling blocks? Is the original 4wd leaf what I'm looking for?
Ok now the big question is, I'd like to use the Ranchos 9000XL's but they don't know how to figure out which one I need. I called their tech support and it was like I was talking Chinese to them
So if a 2wd Ex is 2 inches lower then the 4wd version would I just order a 4wd
shocks all around or do I need more/less?
I appreciate the help.
Either option may work for you (I've toyed with both), but going the full 6 inches with the necessary hardware may serve you best in the long run.
Someone did the F350 front coil spring mod and it didn't turn out too much different from stock...https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...n-upgrade.html
I will however answer your questions:

The thread above will answer this question

I'm not too sure, but when the 4wd guys use this spring, they usually use a 3.5 inch F-350 block with V or F code leafs upfront, so it's hard to tell...
Is the original 4wd leaf what I'm looking for?
Yes, that's what you would be looking for, but if I'm not mistaken, it works either way you slice it...
So if a 2wd Ex is 2 inches lower then the 4wd version would I just order a 4wd shocks all around or do I need more/less?
2wd trucks use a different set of shocks up front as opposed to 4wd. The rear shocks are all the same.
Given that you have a Diesel, this is the part number for the correct kit: EXP-K4021BMX
The kit you have in your link is for a gas truck and not recommended for a diesel truck.
The diesel kit I posted above will lift your truck 6 inches in front and 5 in the rear. As long as they send you the full leaf pack for the rear, your truck will initially sit perfectly level. No blocks or other adjustments needed....you have my word. However, as time goes on, it will eventually settle to the factory rake. I.e. slightly higher rear
What they don't tell you:
-You will need to go to an alignment specialty shop to get your truck aligned. Those kind of shops have the proper alignment cams to install and align your truck properly.
-If you're concerned about mileage and power, regearing is a smart option. You can tune, upgrade your turbo, and add bigger injectors all you want, but when it comes down to it, you still need to regear. With bigger rims and tires, you make it harder for your truck to get and keep moving. The long and short of it, to make it easier for you truck and save yourself some fuel, regear to 4.10 and nothing higher if you have 35s and 4.30s if you have 37s.
-The steering arm isn't always included in the kit and it sometimes the incorrect one as Ford changed the number or teeth on their steering boxes. Check with 4-wheel parts to make sure you have the right one.
-With your 20s, you may have to step up to 285s or 305s to fill the wheel wells. I used the factory mags with 315/75/16 (34.6 inch tire) BFG All-terrains and it fills everything up well. They're also easy to find in the event of a flat.
-While you're working on the suspension and steering, it would be a great time to replace your ball joints and tie rods. I did a write-up on this not too long ago: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-need-2wd.html
Lifting your truck is a big undertaking, but when everything is said and done, your truck will look awesome and drive considerably better!
