They get pretty nasty. I cleaned up mine and did a little tweak or two. Got rid of the hesitation it had and smoothed out acceleration. I can't remember what I used to clean it. But it was probably a contact / relay cleaner I had around.
I need to do this to mine. Acceleration is fine, but there is a bit of dead travel before it starts working, and you can hear the IVS click when you press on the go pedal.

That is how they are unless you do the hot pedal mod ...
Ok I will give that a try once I get a new fuel line... I was cleaning out the screen and changing the fuel filter once again and noticed the rubber connecting hose on the metal lines was dry rotted and very very brittle.... Is the map sensor on the fire wall on these trucks or hidden some where I have never looked for the MAP on this truck..
You can buy the replacement hoses at ford. If you can find some high pressure diesel rated hose you can use that, I just ordered from www.partsguyed.com
IIRC there are 5 rubber hoses in there to change, if one looks bad, I'd change them all. If you go to eds site and ask him a question he'll know what you are talking about.
Yep I am going to replace all of the rubber hoses in the truck, the fuel line was dry rotted and when I pulled the map sensor hose that plugs into the valve cover it simply fell apart it was so hard... I did pull the plug on the map sensor and holy hell did the truck wake up... I am no longer getting a hesitation nor does it nose dive on the initial acceleration..... I am guessing the best line of action since the Check engine light is on would be to replace the MAP sensor with a new working one lol.... I can also use my lil programmer on full power without the truck defueling and running like ****.... I am still going to check fuel pressure while i am in there and possibly just replace all the fuel pumps and possibly put a new HPO pump in her even if they are 350 bucks......
Well bad news I was headed into town to get a new map sensor and while cruising at 55 I instantly lost power and coasted to a stop. The truck cranks and stunned for a second then dies... I'm walking the hot 90 degree 2 miles home disgusted lol... I'm wondering if I popped a fuel line but the one I installed is not leaking!
Did you ever check the fuel pressure? Is there fuel in the filter bowl? Does the tach move when cranking?, Have you changed the cps? If not the cps was recalled on that year of truck and can cause it to quit and not start. checking th filter bowl will tell you if your getting fuel fro your pump, the tach moving (or not moving) can indicate a cps failure, The fuel pressure is a good indicator of your pump condition.
Yes I have fuel in the bowl and the tach moves she has sat onthe side of the road all day I stopped on my way home to check on my baby and thought what the heck it's worth a shot and she fired up!!! Bi think when I unplugged the map sensor and drove it something in the puter decided that she wasn't supposed to be running.... I'm about to make the 3 mile walk to fire her up again and try to limp her home so I can figure out what went wrong.... I'm beginning to think I've opened a realy freakin big can of worms with my old girl lol but I'm gonna show her the tlc needed to get her right...
If you havent change your CPS. Take one with you if not, theyre like $25 and good to carry a spare anyways all you need to change it is a 10mm wrench. Because that and the IDM are the only things I know of short of a pcm issue that will cause a truck not to run/ start, as long as you getting fuel.
I had a 96 F350 service truck that did the same thing and got to the point were it would die turnd out to be a small hole the fuel pump diafram.
It sounds like a fuel problem to me also
Well I bought two cps a map sensor a barametric press sen the truck is running fine still no power gonna install all three and see what happens... I think the map sen caused the no start this time...
Well I put the new nap sensor in it has no effect plugged in but once unplugged the truck runs 200% better. Back to the drawing board and didn't get a chance to get the fuel pressure #'s gonna try this weekend
