It's not quite that simple, but that's what an EGR bypass kit does. There are also kits available that delete the EGR system entirely.
If you have an EGR cooler problem you most likely have a bad oil cooler, and that will have to be replaced as well.
I think you should check for trouble codes that may be stored and monitor the coolant/oil temperatures under driving conditions to determine exactly what the problem is. If you don't have a way of doing that, a competent tech is well worth the money IMO.
So i know for sure that my egr cooler is not leaking, but every morning for the past week my truck runs ****ty(hard shifting have to let off acellerator to get it to shift and still some white smoke) but in the afternoon runs like a beast its like driving two different vehicles. any ideas?
Mine is doing the same thing and getting worse. I'm will accelerate to about 10 mph at 22oo rpm and stay there. When I let of the tranny shift hard into second and then it accelerates and gets stuck again before slamming into third. But once I come to a stop or the truck warms up a little it runs normal. I can't figure this one out. This all started a couple of days ago.

Sounds like you might have some injectors going south. Try letting the truck warm up a significant amount before you drive it and see if it still does the same thing with the trans. If you're having a problem with the white smoke you need to check to see if it smells sweet (coolant) or like unburnt diesel.
