I dont know. All I have ever seen are pictures which may or may not have been an actual set of 7.17s...just a file photo or something.
I would think the ring gear would have to have 43 teeth and the pinion would have only 6. Thats the only ratio I can make work out to anything close to 7.17 (7.1666666667)
I'm anxious to see how my recent upgrades and how they will all work together. With the combination of the 428 liking to make tons of bottom end torque and the 5:13's bumping the rpm up in cruising speeds I figure the gears will give me some good off the line get up and go as well as climb nicer offroad. I think it should take some stress off the drivetrain parts making it easier to turn them but I'm curious on how my top speed will be affected at highway speeds. My 4:10's I did about 100k/h but with my new setup I figure with it all combined I should be able to keep up to those speeds. Any other thoughts on that..
Yeah when it's on the road I drive it almost everyday. I use it on the highway when travelling to the good 4x4 spots up to about an hour and a half away sometimes. So far it's wheeled all day and got me home every time
i have thoughts on this!!!!! my truck with 3.55's could top out the 85 mph speedometer with 40's in 4th gear. are you saying you could only get up to 62mph(100kph) because something is wrong then. or are you trying to estimate your rpm at a "cruising speed"?
Well I guess it could do 110. That's the speed limit on the highway round here.
It's not a race car it's a truck on 44's! I wouldn't want to go any faster anyway with all the road noise and shake of the tires. Don't get me wrong my truck drives pretty damn deadly at high speeds with a tight front axle, kingpins, internally balanced tires and hydro assist working as a steering stabilizer i just don't feel the need to ever go faster than that. I love how it handles believe me I once had a scary driver side steering arm with big lift and the bolts backed off and it got"sloppy". Back in the day...
And yes the 4:10s lugged the engine not running at an optimal rpm combined with a motor that didn't have enough bottom end so much. It was still pretty good just this time around it will be really good!
Can't say I havn't been putting in the time and effort. It's all just about getting this motor buttoned up now. I hope 2 weeks. Waiting on a cam. I want thus done so bad so I can enjoy the rest of the summer at the lakes, and wheeling.
Soon man ...
Payin the bills. I try to get a couple hours in each nite and I always have weekends to work until the the gf takes me away from what I'm doing to hang out. Lol problem is I keep getting packages in the mail for new stuff to install like gears, weatherstripping, roof cab lights, emblems, ballistic fab bushings for trac bar and so on. That's what I'll be doing thus weekend is the trac bar out of some 1/4 wall /1. 5" Dom.
I'm building this to put the power down!
I'm not skipping any steps this time. It should work nice with the swing shackle as well as a top threaded bushing(not in pic) to allow for it to not limit flex
