All, I lowered the window today to relase the Texas heat and it would not go back up. It is stuck in the down position. I have read all the posts on here about this problem but want your help with first things to look for.
I took off the door panel and can see the motor in there. It looks like a bear to replace.
When I hit the window up/down switch it is making a clicking noise near the dash. It clicks in the up position not the down position. And the motor is silent. Nothing turning and no gears grinding.
Where would you start? Oh and BTW the check engine light also came on during the same time. Thanks, B.

Reason: additional info
The check engine light came on? I dought they are related, but anything is posible. I would take the door panel off and un-plug the motor and run a jumper wire to it ( and a ground wire ) and see if it moves. If it still wont move the the motor is bad. Or you can also probe the wire going into the motor with a test light and see is its getting power.
It may be a bad window switch.I still think it could be a bad motor. If its putting to much of a load on the circuit it can cause the window motor not to work till it cools off. Usually when that happens, the window will go up about half way or so then slow down, and just stop. Then later you might be able to use it again. It will usually go down ok because there isn't as much force needed to put it down as there is to put it up.
Next time it is not working, try opening the door or doors (you don't mention the model year or driver's or passenger door) while holding the button to see if it will work reliably with the door in a certain positions. It's pretty common for several of the model years to have broken wires in the harness/connector between the door and the cabing.
Same thing happened to my '99 sport took door apart motor very hot unplugged had power. So I put it in the garage and took it out next morning and it worked fine. I think what happened is the motor didn't kick out of auto when it hit bottom and overheated. Since it cooled down its been working fine with no noise.
