problems!!!

problems!!!
Pulling a load up hill, diesel/turbo screaming and only going 35MPH floored. Was told everthing checks out. Coolant looked and smelt burnt. Was told the pcm updates would fix the problem. Any advise?

Welcome to FTE, Rick. Sorry to hear about the problems.
The coolant smells burnt? Is that when you sniff the open degas bottle? It should smell kind of sweet, but not burnt. In fact they put a bittering agent in it so kids and animals won't drink it because it smells kind of good.
What color is the coolant. Should not be green, should not be orange, should be kind of **** colored.
I cannot imagine any new PCM flash correcting that issue. Stupid answer on their part if you ask me. I would be looking for another dealer, IF it was under warranty.

How much load and how much hill? Have you pulled similar before?

Stock truck. Not out of the range as far as the gauge is concerned. And once I toped out it cooled immediately.

The stock gauge is useless. You could easily have got it too hot and not known it from the gauge's perspective.

It is possible that the PCM limited the power if it got too hot.
