Tranny problems

2004 F150 supercrew

Last night I was driving along, I pulled away from a stop sign It shifted into second and upon shifting into third it felt as though it went into neuteral. Engine reved up and kinda suprised me. No indication of any problems prior. Is this somekinda control valve in the tranny? Please dont tell me my tranny is gone!

When I had my 2004, I had the computer program updated for a similar type problem. Check under the hood to see if there is a update sticker on the radiator cover, next to the belt routing sticker.

I would call the dealer and see if they would do so. Mine would shift between first, second and neutral while driving at 25 mph. My truck was built the end of march 2004, took delivery April 2, 2004. The only other problem I had with it was a cracked heater fan.

I bought mine in the same month. Is there any other checks I can perform before I get the dealer involved?

My correction, Its when I go into overdrive that it seems like it goes to Neuteral. If I turn off overdrive it seems to run and shift just fine. Not sure if this changes the diagnos or not?

My 2004 reg. cab 5.4 had synthetic fluid and didn't require changing until 100K. The dealer may perform the update free of charge, call them.

It has about 25,000 on the fluid changed it at 60,000. Looks red and smells like tranny fluid.

I took it in to have it checked out. AAmco ran a scan and said everything was good, no codes. Also said that it could not be the OD Soleniod because only one gear was being effected. Does this sound correct?

Pulled of the pan last night to see if anything obvious. Oil is very clean and very little residue on the magnet. Removed a dual and a single soleniod, Plan to replace them with new ones tomorrow. If it fixes O/D problem great if not it goes to the shop. Does anyone know of something else I could look for?

Did you change the filter while you were in there? If you did, did it correct the problem? just curious.
