i was talking to my uncle yesterday who is an electrical engineer for ford and we were talkin about my truck (99 f350 with 12'' lift) and he said i should put on some headers cause ill get better mileage. what do you think about this? what would be the best brand or kind like shorty or long to get? and how much to have them installed?
And while im at it could you lead toward the best way to go for exhaust on a v10?
Headers won't help mileage. It doesn't take much power to cruise on the road and your stock manifolds are just fine for that.
Personally, I wouldn't sink money in a small engine in a large truck. It's still going to be slow any way you cut it. More aggressive gears will help more than anything so that the engine doesn't have to work too hard.
Headers help mileage (as does any exhaust) by making the engine use less power to perform, however the gains are minimal at best and probably would be nothing at all with the mods that you have on the truck. Not worth the loot.
