I found a 99' V10 4x4 xlt with 77000 on it for $10900. I am hesitant about it because it is the first year for that body style and the V10. I know the 99' V10 was only 260 hp and 350 ft lbs tq. Does anyone know of any problems in that year model? What about with the 99' V10? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I had 99 Superduty v-10 and owned it since it was brand new, has 230,000 miles on it and the only problem it has was a coil went bad and put new plugs in it. That is it, best truck I have ever had, now I have 01 with v-10 with 58,000 miles on it and know problems just has a little more power but put 4.30 gears in it and it helps a lot.
I bought my early 1999 brand new and it is the best truck I have ever owned. I had a couple of issues early that were covered under warranty, other than that I have just put oil/gas in it.
131k on mine and I just finished a 1000 mile round trip pulling my 10K fifth wheel up into the Davis Mountains in West Texas. Best truck I've ever had.
Thanks for the info. Glad to hear that they didn't have any problems. Maybe it isn't to bad of a deal. Is the MPG about the same as a 00' and newer? Any noticable power difference between a 99' and say a 00'?
Early 99' here with 160k and no major problems. No blown plugs and only replaced one coil. They get about the same fuel mileage as later models (sometimes a little better), have the about the same torque, but tend to run out of steam over 4K. A few basic mods and you'll be fine. Gears are a must, I pull a 13K gooseneck in high elevation and run 4.56s, I wish I would have installed 4.88s instead.
10k sounds good if it's clean. Paid 8k for mine, but it was a "Must Sell" style deal. He had to get rid of it and no one around here wanted a V10. Everyone thinks they need a 7.3/6.0. I have enough headaches working on the oil burners every day, I don't need them at home too.
Pull the oil filler off and see if there is any snot. It'll tell you if it's burning water or not.
According to the '99 Super Duty brochure I'm looking at, the '99 V10(in Super Duty) was factory rated at 275 hp@4,250rpm with 410 lb./ft. of torque@2,650rpm.
