Thorley Discontinues V-10 Header Production
I spoke to Doug Thorley Headers last week about the availability of the 6.8L V-10 headers. The rep said they no longer make them and don’t intend to. Said something about the downturn in the economy was causing people not to buy a V-10 so the headers weren’t selling. Didn’t really make sense but the fact remains they don’t make them any more. I asked about getting together a group buy and that was a no-go.
The rep said they sold all their discontinued stock to a wholesaler. After a bit of whining and begging, he gave me his number. I called the wholesaler and he said he couldn’t even sell them on eBay so he had 4 sets of the 218Y models left (chrome with no EGR fitting). Now there are 3…I got one.
I get nothing out of this except knowing an FTE brother or sister will get a good set of headers at a fair price.
If you PM me I will give you his number.
He’s a wholesaler, not a retailer. He seems like he is always in a rush and doesn’t respond to emails and phone calls quickly, though he will eventually. Just don’t expect retail style service.
If you are on the fence I would act quickly. These are the last 3 known sets of V-10 Thorley headers, the only long-tube alternative to the more expensive Banks Torque Tubes.

He's down to one set or none now. This morning I got email back from him. He had two. I bought one this morning so that leaves one set. Unless he sold it today. I just about bought a set of SS from same guy last fall, but I was two hours to late...
Now I have a Y-pipe I won't be using, I didn't get it put on yet...

Jason, they're talking about the long-tube headers. Which I'd love to see an actual dyno sheet for.
For the 2-valve with the log-style cast stainless manifolds, anything is better than the stockers, and the short-tube headers are great, especially when you can just put them in and bolt up the stock y-pipe.
Long-tube headers should help the low-end torque. AS LONG AS THEY ARE MATCHED LENGTH.
For the 3-valve, the stock manifolds are pretty decent looking, they are nicely formed, and much like a set of shorty headers. I don't know if a set of shorties would do ANYTHING NOTICABLE for the 3-valve, and not entirely sure a long-tube set of headers wouldn't screw with the variable-plenum intake's performance.

For the record, after selling Thorley Headers to Jardine, Doug Thorley himself went off and started Dougs Headers. Which has since been acquired by Pertronix....
Doug's Headers
They offer headers for the 2V V10.
D6621-R for EGR, D6620-R for no EGR. Also available ceramic coated.
Don't have any experience with how good they are, but they look darned good....

And I agree with Krewat on the 3V - the stock cast manifolds are awfully good. I suspect the gains from headers were probably insufficient to warrant investing in the tooling to produce headers. How many people would buy headers that add 10 hp? Not enough to satisfy their marketing folks....
