got my brake issues worked out and needless to say they work awesome now, but while testing them today I had to refuel I had 2.2 gallons exactly left in my tank, truck was running fine and at operating temperature, I started the truck at the gas station now all fueled up, it immediately started huffing, "whoof whooof woohm" then cut out, tried to restart and it cranked for 15 seconds then fired, EXTREME ROUGH IDLE THOUG, so I held my foot on the skinny so it didnt die, drove off 150 yards out of Hess and pulled over in the parking lot, truck was able to stay running on its own now, didnt see any leaks in the engine, so I hop back in cab, run the **** out of it going down the road (only for 3 miles) then got home shut it off, came back in 10 minutes and the truck started fine so I went and parked it. I don't think it couldve ran dry with 2 gallons still in that tank what else couldve happened, I also need to test the alternator tomorrow because I now think a new one is coming atleast before winter time, the dash gauge needle is halfway on the O in NORMAL, how do I test that? multimeter set to 20vdc, ground on battery ground and then pos on the alternater juiced wire?
my tank is newly replaced 3 weeks ago by myself and it is a 17 gallon primary tank my rear tan is 18 gallon and I also pulled the shower head off and put a piece of fuel injection hose on that runs on the bottom of the tank 1 week ago to get every drop and yes it has a V cut into it, what else could it be?
well 2 gallons of fuel is pushing your luck.that's not very deep in the tank.heck if you were sitting sideways even a little,or who know's just the pressure of the fuel going in the tank could have blew the little fuel left in there enough to pick up a little air and that's all she wrote lol.
Not a lot other than extra wear and tear on your starter. Like I say, it's just as easy to throw $20 in at 3/4 tank as it is at 1/4 tank. Keep you tank a little fuller and it won't be an issue. On top of that, in colder areas, running tanks low promotes water build up in the tank, as the airspace in the tank allows more frost and condensation to form in the tank, eventually building up as water.
As far as checking voltage while running, just check from terminal to terminal on one battery, as it's all in parallel it will tell you what voltage things are running at.
As said, the fuel probably just sloshed around enough for air to get sucked in. I've probably done this about 3 or 4 times by now (twice above 60 MPH LOL).
Its not really good for it, but I doubt any real damage was done.
