Your posts about the Marinco updates are good. You would figure this type of device would be standard equipment on the Super Duty Trucks, not the cheesy plug it comes with?

I just sanded the hole smooth and applied rust inhibitor and some chrome paint along the bare edge before installing the plug.

Another thing I did was add some sealant around the boot as an added measure of waterproofing. So far it's been working flawlessly.

Nice writeup Chris.
I might add the sealant around the boot as well. Good advice!

I can clearly imagine how easy these OEM cords can get damaged if they get pinched. I wasn't too concerned on cutting either!

One would think it should be a standard equipment. Oh well.

great write up! I have been thinking about doing this for a while now and just stummbled on this post. Do you have a part number for the plug by any chance? And what kind of sealant are you going to be using and where?

Marinco 150BBI Marine On-Board Charger Inlet. I was going to use clear RTV silicone sealant from the local AutoZoo chain store and seal up around the screws and the boot on the back of the plug.

I'm pretty sure Chris has it right, about 1-7/8". I just picked the hole saw that was closest in size and blasted through. I was surprised at how easy it was to tell you the truth. I cleaned it up and put a rust inhibitor on the exposed metal edges.

Important - When you put the cord into the rubber boot on the back of the plug, leave a "drip loop" in the cord so that water doesn't run INTO the boot, but runs down the wire and to the ground. I'll try to find photo of the rear of the installation under the bumper.

I put mine above the tow hook in the chrome.

I like the idea of terminating it with a pigtail, especially if you want to run more than a block heater (tranny/oil pan heater, batt heaters, interior heater) just depends on how cold it gets.

Great write-up. Thanks.

My plug end fell off my heater cord at the tow-hook. So I bought a Marinco plug and went to install it.

The Marinco has 3 holes for the new incoming wires ... they're marked white, black and green. My cable has a green wire and two black wires ... no white.

How do I know which of the two black wires goes into the black, and which goes into the white?

Thanks.

Doesn't matter, it will work either way.
