Hello and thanks.. SpringerPop, I am in Valencia... as for pics, I still have not uploaded any that I have taken. I just got the truck a little over a month ago and here is what it looked like when I got it:

Ford : F-250: eBay Motors (item 140409186259 end time May-25-10 18:32:35 PDT)

I have done a little bit to it and will post some pictures up one of these days soon. I have a long list of things I want to do to it and am currently collecting parts for install after it is painted. So a lot of the newer things will not be done for a while since I probably wont do anything with the paint for a couple of years. I need to get the drivetrain all taken care of first and that is currently underway a little at a time.

In the meantime, I have put in all new door rubber, a sliding glass rear, painted the wheels black, mounted the spare in the bed, wired in the delayed wiper switch, new steering wheel, installed a hidden kill switch, tapped the shoulder mounts for shoulder belts (they should be here any day), obtained an F600 dash cluster which I am currently fixing up, and done several things under the hood.

The fuel pump quit on me last night, so next weekend I will be replacing that and will be working on the carb a bit as well to make it all run again.

Anyway, lots more on the list and plenty to do. Just gotta find the time and money.

-Rich

I see you got it with six seconds to go! You cut it pretty close, but a winning bid is a winning bid!

What a nice fifth-gen "bump-side"! This one has all the potential to become a real eye-turner with an appropriate amount of elbow-grease.

Have fun with this one! They're easy to work on and straight-forward, mechanically. Nothing complicated or tricky. Real work-horses that last and last! My last one of this vintage was a '70 C/S, which my son in Castaic still has.

I'm just south of you in Reseda.

Thanks... Yeah, I used Esnipe to place my bid and set it for 6 seconds, so it sniped it for me at just the right time. No point on bidding early and driving the price up.

Yeah, I love the truck and have a lot of plans for it. Over time, it will come along. When I was young, my dad ordered a brand new 73 F250 Highboy that I have fond memories of. I have had a 98 Dodge Ram that I bought new and that has been my truck for the past 12 years. My daughter will be driving in 2 years and wants the Dodge, so figured I was going to need another truck. This way, I have 2 years to get it up to daily driver status.

I am just about done with my 67 Firebird convertible, so I needed a new project and this truck foots the bill. The bird is a show car, so its just a weekend toy. But this truck will be my right hand man once I am done with him.

Welcome to FTE and the SoCal Chapter.

One would assume w/the optional 390 engine, the optional Super Cooling radiator and the optional 25 gallon auxillary fuel, that this truck was used w/a camper.

So I wonder why it has the standard equipment passenger car type mirror(s) on it?

The Camper Special emblems are missing, so it may not be a Camper Special. The same items that were standard equipment on Camper Specials, were optional on other models, with one exception.

Camper Specials came with a pigtailed wiring harness/plug to be used with camper lights. It was placed in the glovebox at final assembly.

This harness plugged into the Camper Special only taillamp harness, that had an extra plug for it.

This wiring harness is the only way to prove if it's a Camper Special or not. There are no VIN or Warranty Plates codes that decode to a Camper Special.

You can order a copy of the original build sheet, a copy of the original window sticker from martiauto.com. FoMoCo has none of this info any longer.

In the late 1980's, Ford was gonna THROW WAY all the data that pertained to 1967/79 vehicles. Kevin Marti, a Mustang nut in Phoenix AZ found out about Ford's plans, and got ALL of it.

I ordered my Marti report the day I won the auction. I just got my email (still waiting for my paper copy to arrive).

I do notice that there is a wiring harness (plug) that goes into the bed from just behind the drivers seat from the inner corner of the bed (I will post pictures later) that I am not sure of the purpose of. I dont know if this was ever used with a camper, and I dont know if it was an actual Camper Special as the auction said. I noticed as you did that there are no emblems for it. Here are the ordering options from my Marti report:

ORDER TYPE: RETAIL
DSO ITEM # 6634
DEALER: 71H451
THOMPSON-FAUSKEE FORD CO
17 E VICTORIA ST
SANTA BARBARA CA 93104
Your vehicle was ordered with the following options:
Sliding Rear Window
Oil Bath Air Cleaner
8.75X16.5 10 Ply Rated Black Sidewall Tires
AM Radio
Reduced Noise Exhaust System
Tinted Glass
Cigar Lighter
Super Cooling Radiator
25 Gallon Frame Mounted Fuel Tank with Standard Tank
Power Steering
Camper Package
Your truck was actually produced on August 11 1972, ten days ahead of schedule.

It says "Camper package". Is that the same as a Camper Special?

Anyway, I love the truck no matter what it is, and I am not restoring it 100% original like I have with my Firebird. This is going to be a daily driver, so I am making it my own and not restricting myself to keeping it all stock.

Yes, it's a Camper Special, the badges are missing.

There was a 1965 F100 at the F100 Western Nationals (held on the 26th of June) that had Thompson-Fauskee Ford license plate frames on it.

Good luck finding any of these frames. It took me 20 years to find a set of Stockton Quincy Ford license frames, and this dealer (located in Westwood) was in business even longer than Thompson-Fauskee.

I have already been searching for them. But in the meantime, I have the 1972 Pickup frames on it.

Already ordered the personalized plate of "72 F250" and had a blue and yellow replica plate made that I will mount on the truck once my ordered plates arrived.. So it will fly a blue and yellow period correct plate with 72 F250 on it (I was surprised that it wasnt taken).

Anyway, I promise to get pictures uploaded one of these days soon.. I need to fix the carb and fuel pump this weekend and if I get it running again, I will get it washed and take some current pics. \

EDIT: And no sooner do we have this conversation than a frame pops up for sale (50's frame, but still...): http://www.oldpl8s.com/sale-frames.htm

I am not paying $75 for it though... lol

That frame is correct for 1956 and later. 1955 and earlier plates were longer.

On many vehicles when the license plate was rear bumper mounted, and the license plate lamp was mounted above it, the dealers wanted their names on the bottom of the frame.

If the name was atop the frame, it would be partially obscured. Most dealers had two frames, one with the name above which was usually used on the front bumper.

Geo. M Sutton was the Ford Dealer in Inglewood, at 241 N. Market St. Across the street at 240 N. Market, was Frank H. Afton, the Studebaker/Mercedes-Benz Dealer.

If I told you what I paid for the pair of Stockton Quincy Ford license plate frames, you prolly wouldn't believe me...it was more than 75 bucks each.

I used to collect metal license plate frames, had over 1,000. Sold most of my collection recently to an ebayer that lives in Glendora.
