Starter Education

I recently replaced my starter on my 390 with a brand new unit from carquest. I had to do this since my old starter would not start my truck for 30 to 45 minutes after reaching operation temperature since it was so close to my Hooker copetition headers. I figured if I just went with a brand new starter (NOT A REMAN) and wrapped it with some good heat sheilding that I would not have the same problems, WELL I CAN START THE TRUCK AFTER 15 MINUTES OF SITTING, but this is still a pain. Ok, so I did a little research and decided to buy a starter built by a company called 'MEAN GREEN'. The starter is a mini unit and is suppose to be alot more heat resistant, but I was told that there are two different starters for the FE engines, 2 bolt for cars, and 3 bolt for trucks, also that there was a difference for manuals and autos. My truck is a manual (NP 435) and the new starter has three bolts, the high dollar $300.00 mini unit only has two bolts, and I was told by there customer reps that the only thing that mattered was that the gear in the starter was the same. The car style two bolt starter will work, but the whole possable gear difference has me a little confused. I also want to know if any one besides Carquest makes a brand new replacement starter. I was hoping maybe the dent side Jedi master NUMBER DUMMY could chime in on this matter!!!!!!!!
