I have a new Dennis carpenter rear window gasket but i was wondering if anyone used a butle or urathane to help seal the gasket to the body? Dont want it to leak again
On my 68 Mustang, I used urethane to mount the glass to the rear window glass. After fully cured, I installed the glass and then used it again to caulk under the seal. No leaks.
There are several different Rear window gaskets depending on the window and moulding.
Rear windows are swappable 1973-1996 however be aware that the 1973-1979 rear windows are thicker than their 1980-1996 counterparts and requires a different gasket to seal right. What compounds this is Ford made the 1980-1996 window and seal a service part for all 1973-1996, and the aftermarket sector does not know of the difference in window thickness. You need the right seal for the year of glass you are placing in your vehicle.
Rear window seal and part numbers for 1973-1979 with original factory window.
1: D3TZ-1042084-C : 1973-1977 for solid rear window with wide chrome trim.
2: D3TZ-1042084-A : 1973-1979 for solid rear window without moulding, and 1973-1981 with factory sliders.
3: D7TZ-1042084-A : 1977-1979 for solid rear window with narrow trim D7TZ-1042430-A.
Rear window seal and part numbers for 1980-1996 with original factory window.
1: E0TZ-1042084-A : 1980-1996/97 with solid rear window, without chrome trim
2: E0TZ-1042084-B : 1980-1996/97 with solid rear window, with chrome trim D7TZ-1042430-A.
3: D3TZ-1042084-A : 1980-1981 with factory slider, and 1973-1979 with factory slider.
4: E2TZ-1042084-A : 1982-1996/97 with factory slider. Requires chrome trim, part #: D7TZ-1042430-A
All the windows are swappable 1973-1996/1997, but you have to make sure you got the right seal to match the year of the glass, or it won't fit right.
Also according to the service books I have, apply a 1/4" bead of weatherstrip sealer and adheasive to both top corners of the back window seal where the seam of the roof of the cab and B pillars meet, 1 and 1/2 inch on each side of the seam. This is to prevent water from getting between the seam and the seal on replacement applications.
I did not use anything other than the gasket itself and it worked well and no leaks. I wish you were closer and I would introduce myself and give you a hand, although I know you have done many installs!
Thanks for the help. Dennis carpenter only has one listing. We got it and the gasket was almost an inch and a half to long. I cut the excess from the gasket to get it to fit the window correctly. Got the window about 3/4 in when the gasket ripped. Finished the install and other than the rip, the gasket fits good.
Did anyone else have an issue with there gasket being too big?

You're trying to use a 1973-1979, D3TZ-1042084-A, seal with a 1980-1996 style window I expect.
The exact opposite happens when you use a, E0TZ-1042084-A, seal with a 1973-1979 style window, the seal will be too small, and will have to be stretched. Still wont fit proper. Know this from experience.
Try putting the part numbers into DC's website and see what happens.
EDIT: I just did this for you and they have all the seals I listed above in my earlier post. However, you have to be in the correct year section to find them. Either in the 1967-79 or 1980-1996 section.

81, I am about to order DC's cab seal kit for my '76 F100, CAB73-B, windshield gaskets and door seals, this should work for me if I get the correct rear windshield, right?

The gasket we got from DC was too big for the window opening. and too big for the widow too. With a inch and a half cut out of the gasket it fits the window and the window opening perfect

Correct. The seal that comes with that kit looks like it's the D3TZ-1042084-A seal and would fit a 1973-1979 rear window.

That's odd, sounds like the seal was stretched.
With the seal being cut, it may shrink and cause a gap though.
