good or bad idea? im lookin to make some noise and might try this before i get a flowmaster SI/DO. so how does it sound? remember i have the 2nd cat off. also could i just take out my muffler and put a piece of flex pipe in its place to test it out? i dont see why not...any power loss with no muffler? not worried about emissions or legality here. thanx in advance...

PS: sound clips would help, i heard the one from seebees site and liked it but maybe another one or to would finalize the deal...

You seem to spend a lot of time worrying about your exhaust.
You have a couple of threads concerning it.
It is YOUR exhaust system.... Do with it whatever you want....
The replies given apply to you too...Too big is not good..
Neither is too small.... You can do anything for a test...
You must make a decision and live with it...

I can understand that...
Go with the single in and dual out and you will only have to buy piping for one side!!

I tried a few different things on my 96. Nomatter what you do it won't be very loud. I put a turn down just under the cab. Not that loud. Dropped the first cat. Not that loud. No cats and no muffler. Straight out the original piping. Not that loud. Put a turbo muffler on for some back pressure. Not that loud. The loudest was when I put a 10 ft piece of gutter on going straight out the back. That made it louder. But it was a raspy resonating sound that would really echo inside the cab and it applified what little sound there was.

Ok, If you got your first cat on I wouldnt even puyt a muffler on. Three or for years ago I ordered duals from jc witney, the one with them big resonator tips. Sounded like crap. So I took them off and extended the pipe. Sounded pretty good. Some people actually thought it was a v8. Had a nice rumble. Bad thing was them cheap pipes rusted out a year and a half later. Be for I bot my new exhaust I had no cats. 2 2" pipes going into a tailpipe from my buddy's F250. Oh yeah that was loud. Could be heard over a mile away. Yeah Baby!

I have a freind with a 94 shortbed with a straight pipe coming out from 2nd cat. I asume since the cat quiets things down a little, it would be simmilar to his. It sounds pretty good with the cat, I would venture to say it would sound better w/o the cat. I would do the same but I dont want it that loud.

My 90 sounded like crap with a straight pipe. It was plenty loud, but is actually louder now with the Flowmaster and headers. It sounds like I'm going to shake the house down when I start it in the morning. I let the boss lady drive it the other day and could hear the truck as soon as she turned into the neighborhood even though she was just above idle. It sets off car alarms on dealer lots when I drive by on the street. It's so loud it's annoying. If I had known before I spent the money it would be so loud I wouldn't have done it. If you do something to annoy your neighbors, remember that when they do things that annoy you. What comes around goes around.

A simple solution to a puzzling question.
take it to a muffler shop ,have them cut off your pipes before your cats and install two 18" glass packs and run your 2-1/4 pipes out the back.the cost is around 200 dollars and it is loud and helps with your gas mileage.
And if you can spring for it put some 3-1/2 echo tips on the back.
There problem solved, everyone happy, and becareful blasting through the cities.

I'm running the Hedman headers with 2.25" pipe coming off the collectors. I built a ypipe to merge the dual 2.25 into a single 3" I don't really have any cats on the truck, but I trimmed the ends of the second one so the 3" pipe would slip down the middle and welded it up so it looked sorta stock.
