hi everyone new to the forum
i have a 53 f100 with a volare front end already welded in
it looks like they did a nice job but when i was getting ready to mount power steering box i noticed there are no mounts
needless to say im going to fabricate my own and weld them in
there are plenty of pictures online but i would like to know if someone who has one could take a few measurement so that i get it exactly where its supposed to be
i'd like to know how far it is from the bottom of the pitman arm shaft center to the side and to the k member in the front, the angle of the box would be great too
once i get that mounted i'm going to be putting in a 93 5.0 HO and aod transmission so if anyone has any tips i'd appreciate that to
thanks
tom
got no measurements but do have a couple pics that might help you... why did they torch out the steering box ??? it should have mounted with the clip ???
thanks for the pics
if anyone has one that could measure it i sure would appreciate it
not sure why they torched the bracket off
i can see where the old bracket attached to the k member
thanks
I have never heard of anyone cutting out the mounting for the power steering box...then again it doesn't surprise me that it would happen. I could give you measurements but I feel that your best option would be to assemble the steering components and then mount the PS box where the layout dictates. Here is a photo that should help. When the tie rods and drag link are assembled then the pitman arm should line up with the other components to form a straight line, that is where the PS box needs to mount.
Thanks John, that is an old pic but hopefully it will get Tom moving in the right direction. I never cease to be amazed by what some POs do with vehicles, I can't help but wonder why someone would cut off a PS box mounting.
