But - if you like the net look, I built one for a guy several years ago out of flat iron, back when nets were cool, for a Mazda - 1 1/4" flatiron, with a square tube frame. It turned out really nice, and was functional. I've had tailgates on my own stuff that were homemade out of expanded metal before (too cheap to buy a replacement one, but wanted something). A nice side benefit is you can see through them, kinda nice parallel parking and such (with a std. cab).

Hey neighbor! I ran with a tailgate net for awhile. It was cool looking. I think it comes down to if you like the look or not. I kept the tailgate so i could go back to it later which I eventually did. I think it would be a good alternative while you look for a decent replacement. Keep an the marketplace app on Facebook. or CL.
