Are they 302 or 351 heads? These should have "302" or "351" cast into the top surface around the rockers somwhere, and the difference is the 302 version has 58cc chambers and 1.78"/1.45" valves while the 351 has 60cc chambers with 1.84"/1.54" valves. If they are complete with valves and springs they're a decent upgrade but if you have to buy valves don't bother, you can have CNC ported E7's that will easily outperform these for $600 from Powerheads or Thumper Performance!
which ones are better? the 302 or 351? im not sure which ones they are. they are complete, and also hes only wanting 100 for them. he has a ton of ford parts just laying around and is trying to clean up.
and i wont be going the CNC ported route as this is a budget build. and that extra 600 bucks would kill the "budget" part.
but what if they are the 302's? are they worth the 100 bucks hes wanting and are they gonna be close to Gt40s as far as quality goes? cause i cant find ANY GT40s.
No the 302 heads aren't worth anything, they won't flow any better than E7's and don't have hardened valve seats so they may not last 10k miles on unleaded fuel unless you have the seats done. The 351 heads would be a good find if they are complete and don't need any machine work, but if they need guides and seats and a spring set you're better off buying E7's from Powerheads because it's no trouble at all to spend $500+ to have an old set of heads reconditioned.

No that cam is nowhere near being SD compatable... I tought you were doing a mass air conversion?
Lew.. bigger valves are a good idea but will require porting to blend the seats into the pockets, without that the heads will flow worse than they do with stock valves. And that will likely drive the cost above what a set of Powerheads E7's will cost.. which will easily outperform these even with bigger valves, so it's hardly cost effective.
Yeah i wasn't sure how much work was involved , i just seen it needs valves & springs anyway , but i know NFL said no way hes going to MA , so i don't think this setup is going to work for him ....Lew
