Hi,
I have an 05 F250, Fx4, 6.0. I have been hearing some grinding either at the front end or at the transfer case when i disengage from 4x4 LOW. It doesn't do it everytime. When i click her out of 4x4 low and shift into gear I hear the grinding noise...like something is in a bind. When using 4x4 low range i do shift in and out while tranny is in neutral. Both times i've heard this grinding noise i was on a very slight grade (not sure if thats why). Does anyone know what would cause this?
I have found sometimes it is better to put it in reverse if you were going forward to take the pressure off the gears, then shift into neutral and disengage.
I have an 05 also, never had problem disengauging from 4 lo, have you changed the tranfer case oil or the front axle oil? I bought my truck at 82k miles, changed the tranfer case oil at 93k and it came out black, i think the previous owner never changed it, because it should be red...

Thanks for all the suggestions, you guys are awesome! I will definitly try this (quote above). Other than that, I do everthing else you guys have mentioned. One thing that may be contributing to the problem, the diffs and crankcase have never been serviced on this truck (127k miles). I'll be doing that ASAP. I will post back if this seems to fix the problem.
