Going Frigging Nuts

Anybody know what size socket will fit on the pitman arm nut for a F350? I measured it with a dial caliper and I get 1.285. It looks like it is metric but 1.285 converts to 32.6 mm!?!? Maybe 33mm????

I really want to say I used 1 5/16" box end but that converts to 1.3125".

Yea, I was thinking of useing a 1 5/16 but if it is a loose fit on the nut and the nut is on tight there is a chance of striping the nut and I am just not in the mood for any more nightmares. Might have no choice but to try it.

Yeah, and just because you put it on there to try doesn't mean you have to torque it like a ninja turtle either. Put it on and give it a nice little pull. You'll be able to tell if it will hold strong or if it's gonna slip. Also, you may know but a 6 point will be less likely to slip than a 12 if you can find it. I used a 1 3/4" combo wrench on the open end of the 1 5/16" and used it for a cheater. Was a PITA but came right off.

Thanks people. Just got the nut off but the puller looks like it was about to break so I took it off and hit it with some PB blaster. Ill give it a try again tonight and hope I don't break the puller. Might try to heat it up a little but I don't want to take a chance on melting any rubber seals on the steering box. Any one ever have this much of a hard time getting the pitman arm off or is it just my bad luck kicking in?

P.S. What is it like getting the new one on?

Try tapping it with a hammer with the puller is on and as tight as you can get it. Mine popped right off with a few taps.

I would try heating it but not with an oxy acetylene torch but with a normal propain torch take your time warming it up evenly with your puller on it keep cranking and tapping with a hammer keep feeling the area around the pitman arm if it starts getting hot stop and let it cool off have a beer then try again may take time but it will come off good luck
