My friend has a 2000 7.3. It starts and runs fine when cold, but after 15 minutes or so, it will smoke blue, will not achieve 2500 RPM, eventually dies, and will not restart until cool.

He borrowed a scanner. Codes are:
1280
1298
0472
0475
and cylinder 1 & 3 low side short.

HPOP can achieve 2500 psi when he floors it so it appears to be good.

Injector o-rings?

 

Sounds like he needs to pull the valve covers and do the 50 cent mod...

 

I'm thinking the same thing. Check the wires on top of the VC for grounding.

 

P1280 - ICP circuit out of range low.

P1298 - Internal IDM failure.

The others are for the EBPV (sounds like he may have deleted it).

Anyway, there's an oil problem, and an electrical problem with the IDM, or a signal the IDM is getting.
