As for color/trim combinations, here is my own personal opinion:

As a rule, I don't like two-tone trucks UNLESS it is on the Ford dentsides! If you go with the two-tone, it will look MUCH better with the "racetrack" trim on it. I think it will look funny with only the upper trim on a two-tone dentside.

I used to have a 1988 Ford Bronco II that was two-tone metallic silver/black/metallic silver (metallic silver on the top and bottom and black for the center color, separated by a wide red pinstripe) with a red interior that looked really sharp and I got TONS of compliments on it. I never saw another one quite like mine with the silver/black/silver combination, but I did see quite a few that reversed the colors (black/silver/black) that didn't look anywhere NEAR as good as mine did. I don't know, the darker color in the middle just looked better, and with all the compliments I received, most people agreed. By having the accent color darker, the "F150" and "LARIAT" (I assume you have a 1978 - 1979 with the emblems mounted high) emblems will also stand out more against the lighter primary color. I think that metallic silver for the primary color (top and bottom) and black for the accent color (middle) separated by the chrome "racetrack" trim would look GREAT!

If you are going with a solid color, use *only* the upper trim. Solid colors don't look as good with the full "racetrack" trim as the two-tones do, in my opinion.

I guess a solid color with no trim will look good too, but that is not very creative, IMO. It is just way too easy to run into another truck that looks exactly like yours if it is only one solid color and no trim on it at all. It also looks more like a stripped-down, low level "work" truck when it doesn't have any accent trim to set it off.

Someone said earlier that no new trucks can pull off a two-tone paint job, and I agree! Along with the chrome trim, no new trucks made today can compete with the attention to detail as the 1970s - early 1980s era Fords trucks!

You complete me

Haha, just kidding. But yes. I definitely highly highly agree with your statement. Metallic silver and jet black. WOW. Great colour combination. On a bronco, that must have looked like the sexiest SUV on the streets.

I was considering throwing a silver/something/silver combo out there earlier, but I didn't know what others would think of me! haha!

Now comes for a trickier part... deciding..

I would love to have around 10-12 of these trucks, all exactly the same, so I could paint each one differently and have all my favourite colour combos!

I'm all aboard the silver/black/silver train, but it doesn't mean that I'm not open to new innovative ideas.

And yes again, I highly agree with you and whoever else said it now. Trim on trucks in the 70's and 80's cannot be beaten.

The 60's may have been known for its drug usage and crazy times, but they made some just as crazy ideas that turned out to be revolutionary in the 70's and 80's! Thank god for that cause I love dentsides!

Does anyone know of the colour codes for a good silver and black combination?

I just did a search of your old posts, and found out that you had a green interior. If you are going to keep the interior green, that certainly makes a difference for the exterior color(s)!

I think a light gold metallic for the primary (top and bottom) color with either dark Pacific green or black accent (middle) color would look really nice separated by the "racetrack" trim with a green interior.

The colors on my 1988 Ford Bronco II were called "Silver Clearcoat Metallic" and "Raven Black."

Yes my interior is green or "Jade" as posted on the inside of the cab.

I think that the green wouldn't take away from the exterior too much, although it would look funny that nothing matches inside to outside.

What about silver/jade/silver

I think that would look real cool

I like the jade colour, but right now there is just too much of it.

The interior is all jade, and the exterior is jade/teal/jade.

I agree, the current Jade/Teal/Jade is a bit too much!

Silver Metallic/Jade/Silver Metallic would look GREAT, plus you will retain much of the original "feel" of your truck! I think the Jade in the middle (accent color) to match the interior would be a really good combination.

Another idea would be a smooth "Eddie Bauer" khaki primary color against a Jade Green Metallic accent color?

In the case of my Bronco II, I think the light "sparkle" from the metallic paint contrasted really nice against the deep "gloss" of a dark color!

You would have to give me an example of what you mean by the khaki eddie bauer green colour because I've probably never seen it before.

But now, what colour of silver? A metallic silver? I'm not even sure what kind of silver to choose. I don't want to take away from the chrome that much because if you've read any of my other posts, I've got the full racetrack trim. I'm almost able to purchase wheel well trim (if I want it).

Silver silver silver, where are't thou?

Ford's "Eddie Bauer"
The "Eddie Bauer" color I am referring to is a smooth (non-metallic), light khaki color. It was used as an accent color on Bronco IIs, Broncos, and 1995 - 1996 F150s. Like this:

http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/7...ze/bronco2.jpg

If you decide you like the "Eddie Bauer" khaki better than the "Silver Metallic" as a primary color, I would personally go with a "Metallic Jade Green" as the accent color.

Although I think it will look really nice with your green interior, (and LOTS better than the Jade/Teal/Jade scheme currently on your truck) I was never really a big fan of the "Eddie Bauer" khaki trim, mostly because that automatically meant a khaki interior, but it was a VERY popular option at the time.

Ford's "Silver Clearcoat Metallic"
The "Silver Clearcoat Metallic" I had on my Bronco II looked almost like a light gray from a distance, but when you got closer, the metallic would begin to show and give it a slight "sparkle" in the sun.

So your truck will blend like this:

Silver Metallic
Chrome/black/chrome (thick upper "Racetrack" trim)
Jade Green
Thin chrome (lower "Racetrack" trim)
Silver Metallic

I have never seen one with those colors, and I think it will look AWESOME!

I too think it would look awesome. Grey/Silver(up close) with a dark green and a black would look very very fancy. Almost as if they were meant to be

I'll have to do some more research on how this can all work because painting a vehicle isn't cheap, but just the thought of a sexy looking dentside makes me want to go out a get a loan. LOL!

Hey, you could always do two tone John Deer Green and Yellow. I was actually thinking about doing that with my axle and diff cover.

If I had the budget to do it, I'd love to paint mine a pearl white, with dark copper metallic center...something about that color combo. Of course, that would also look pretty sweet with black and copper as well, but in more of a striped fashion (i.e. black for the body, with copper roof/dent/bottom.)

But, since my budget's limited, and my bodywork won't be perfect, I'm personally going for a deep hunter green, with probably sand colored accents.

You can tell what I'd go with if you have jade interior.

2 tone is old skool!
Solid color is new school and boring as hell.

I say keep your trim and do a 2 tone of your choice, that will go with your interior color

Hello Aaron-71,

I think the two tone is great. Here in Aus I don't think they where an option on the dents, although a few have been painted that way since.

My previous truck was all yellow with a white roof which was the standard XLT paint (single colour/white roof) but when I saw the first photo of my current truck I knew I wanted it straight away - partly because the two tone paint job really stands out because most trucks here are either single or single/white roof - and partly because the two tone just really suits the dents, especially with the race track trim

goodluck - and some of you other guys have stunning two tone trucks!
