I really don't have a clue on this one, but I thought that thin and narrow trim was robbed from bumpsides and adapted to dentsides. That was just what I thought after looking through retail catalogs with trim, and that narrow stuff seemed to be offered for the 67-72's...but the racetrack stuff with the rubber inserts was what was listed for the 73-79's. Even though I believe that trim was offered maybe late 77 but definitely 78/9, but alot of guys used it on their earlier dentsides.
My uncle has a 77 with race track trim and it came that way from the factory (he got the truck from the original owner in 82) Two tone red and silver so I know for sure the racetrack trim was not 78/79 only. I know someone here can step up and explain the availability.

My dad had a bumpside with full trim...it wasn't the full racetrack style though, that was only on the dents. It was just down the bump on the bumpsides. I have never seen a bumpside with full racetrack trim.

I know that. I know what full race track trim is. I was saying the thin narrow little trim with no rubber inserts that you see on some dentsides, looks just like the bumpside trim to me.
Edit...here's what I'm talking about. I think the upper trim on this guy's truck looks exactly the same as some of the bumpside trim:
But maybe I'm wrong, I just never knew if that was factory 73-79 trim.
My 77 F250 4x4 has the upper and lower racetrack trim like Ronzi's truck. It was originally candyapple red with wimbledon white center but the po had it painted all a darker red from a cheep shop, and it is coming off now. I want to paint it all candyapple red and I have thought about changing out the ends of the upper trim and dumping the lower race track trim. Your now pic with just upper trim has convinced me to do just that. Looks brilliant in the dent but shows off the wheel openings and lower body lines in great form.
704 dentside man:
thats the trim I'm talking about and its the trim on my 77 custom supercab and my 78 custom reg cab. and imo its the best looking trim.
I dont like the lower trim, myself, but to each their own!

Yeah...I knew that's what you were talking about, I just didn't know if that was trim available for the 73-79's or if it was adapted to the dentsides from the bumpsides...because it looks like 67-72 trim to me. Personally, I've always like the racetrack better, so I never looked any deeper in to the narrow trim.

Yep, thats the trim I like as well and I don't like that wide lower trim either. If I was to add trim to mine I'd go with that thin trim in the dent with the thin trim on the edge of each wheel well and drip rail trim but I'm sticking with no trim like my truck came factory.
The bumpside trim is a little different than that style dentside trim...at least the kind I am thinking of. The bumps had and arrow like front and I think the trim was a little wider. Do you have a pic of a bump with the kind you are thinking of?

I did it that way because it was cheaper and its not 2 tone. I dont believe you can just change the ends of the trim. The race track style does look like the end will come off but the upper only style doesnt have a removable end. Plus Ive never seen just the ends listed for sale. I think you will atleast have to replace your whole upper bed trim and if you buy that new then its not going to match your older trim pieces. Just something for you to think about. I bought all new upper trim from Dennis Carpenter and although it was not cheap it was very nice quality.
Ah. I got my color from a 1995 Mustang. You can click on my gallery to see the color if interested. There are a few pieces painted.
Blown, that does look alot like my color. Its hard to take a good pic that shows the true color and flash of these dark greens for some reason.(atleast in my expierence). I think yours might be a tad darker and with more pearl. Mine has quite a bit of diferent color flakes in it but you have to get real close to really see it. I havent got one pic of my truck that the color looks as good as I think it does. Anyways, your truck is looking great and good luck with the rest of it. Its all worth it when you get it back together.
I like solid color trucks with all the chrome you can get, except for the tail gate. The XLTs can keep their huge woodgrain panels and leave me just two horizontal bars and the "F O R D" panel on the tail gate. Its hard to beat candy apple red or dark blue metallic with windshield, drip rail, wheel well, upper, lower, and tail gate trim on it.
I prefer the narrow mid-line trim without the rubber inserts. They have a different contour than the '67-'72s and are really hard to find. It has taken me quite a few years to assemble a couple complete sets as they are currently not reproduced (as far as I know).
