I am a newbie with this new to me truck. The mirrors are power but I don't understand the telescoping feature. Are they manually telescoping? The mirrors that I have are mounted on 2 arms and stick out from the door about 6 inches or so. I need to replace the passenger side and I want to make sure I get the correct replacement, and some of the ones I have found are listed as telescoping.
Yup, they did not do the power fold/telescopic mirrors until 2008. Funny story, when I bought my 2003 I could not figure out how they pushed in. They looked like they would push in, but I just did not get it. No matter how hard I pushed, they would not go in. I was talking to a friend of mine and was walking past the truck when I tripped over the dog (well, more of a self moving floor mat, really) and grabbed onto the driver side mirror. It slid out, and I looked at it and went "Ahhh, so THAT'S how they do it!"
Check the build of your truck. Early 99's did NOT telescope. They were built in the "out" position and did not go in. I don't know if they added the "telescoping feature" on the late 99s or added it later but the early 99s dont have it.
I busted mine a couple of times and finally got a set from an 05 that also had the turn and parking lights with glass heater.
In the words of Ron Popeil, set it and forget it! I set my mirrors all the way out and just leave it there. I prefer the look of the elephant ears sticking all the way out, and figure that if I am gonna whack the mirror I would surly whack the rear fender too, so I just stay away from any places that the truck doesn't fit with the added 3" per side.
