is the fuel filter a one way filter. is it supposed to screw in the carb? mine is inline between the metal line and carb. the reason i ask is my truck wont start unless it starts on the first two tries. what i think is happening is the fuel stored in the carb is draining back in the lines. it usually starts fine once its been running. if it sits for 24 hours or more and when you attempt to start it if it doesnt fire up within the first couple of tries, it wont start at all. like its out of fuel. if i pour fuel in the bowl it starts. i put a new fuel pump in it. what do you guys think? maybe the float needs adjustment?
What kind of carb is it? If a Holley or made for Ford Holley I don't think the fuel can drain out the fuel line because of the position of the fuel inlet valve in the bowl. The gas would have to go "up" through the valve first to get to drain down the line next.
It sounds more like your bowl has a slow leak somewhere. After the truck sits over night and you pop the hood, do you smell gas? Is the manifiold wet under the carb? Or maybe your power valve is blown and yer leaking fuel down the carb throat.
As for the filter question. Some filters do screw directly into the carb. Also, I have seen filters that did have "check valves" in them. Sounds like yours is an afer market add on.
These are just some "un-educated" guesses. If the carb is old you might want to consider a rebuild kit.
i never thought about the power valve leaking! woulnt that cause a driveability problem though? once its running its okay. the gasket is dry along with the manifold.
