Im new here I recently bought a 1979 ford pick up f150 it wont start there no fuel going to the carb so I got a new pump and tried to install it and still the engine wont start so I was wondering if I had install the fuel pump incorrectly I I check the fuel filter going to the carb and its fine im not sure if the pump sucking the fuel from the tank or the pump not install correct
You have to make sure that when you install it, you tilt (when looking directly at the mounting face) the pump back so that the arm reaches up high and back so that you make sure it is riding on top of the cam eccentric and not stuck below it.
Ummm...correction, the fuel pump arm goes under the eccentric not over. Keep in mind, if the line from the tank was/is dry, you'll probably need to prime the pump. Or my preferred method, suck the fuel line, til you get gas in your mouth, spit the gas out, hook the line to the pump. Take a shot or two of vodka and swish the taste out of your mouth then hook the outlet side of the pump to the carb.
LoL I didnt know I had to prime the line i'm sure it;s dry that well be hard trying to suck that line to the tank to that pump under that truck but i do it see how it that work out

It's really not that difficult, just be sure to put your thumb over the end each breath you take, or otherwise the gas will drain back in to the tank. It usually only takes me 5-6 sucks to get it (go ahead and quote that). Be sure to be like Bill Clinton and don't inhale or it'll mess you up.

Thanks i'm going out side and start on it now, its 4 56pm now in cali and it not as hot as earlier so good time to get under that truck will post back with a update on the truck
Another thing to check is the condition of the flexible hoses that are in the fuel line. If it's a long bed there are three. One from the fuel tank to the fuel line. The middle one, about midway towards the front and the last hooks the hard line to the fuel pump.
These get hard and crack allowing the pump to suck air instead of fuel.

This is something I wasn't aware of I will sure get on that in the morning thanks
If the pump doesn't pick up on it's own there is something wrong. There is no reason to try priming one, thats unheard of.
Really? Any time I've ever had a dry line, I've had to prime the pump. If the line isn't dry, then no. But any time I drop a tank or replace the line getting the gas from the tank to a mechanical pump is usually a problem.
Try putting a little gas down the carb. It will crank on that if everything is in place, that will run the pump a little and try to pull some gas up, usually works for me.
BTW, Gas, skin BAD! Benzine will give you cancer if you exposed to too much of it.
