Hey guys, I changed out my old carb with a rebuilt replacement from National. I got everything cleaned up and old parts replaced...EGR valve, Vacuum ported switch, new fuel filter, thermostat...
I got all the vacuum lines hooked up, linkages are in place.
Truck wont start. Im thinking fuel.
Im thinking its a fuel issue. Should I spray some starter fluid in carb?
Are there anything I missed to do once I put a new carb in to get fuel flowing? This is my first time so figured Id ask some experienced guys first...
thanks.
Go ahead and spray some starter fluid down the carb if you have not already. If you are getting fuel to the carb most likely the floats are a touch sticky and the fuel bowl is not filling up. Had it happen with mine and getting it running helps with that. More fuel flowing. Sometimes they come with the floats stuck. I have been lucky there - was able to take the carb off, turn it upside down and tap the bowl (and gently shake the carb) until I heard them moving.
Once you have it running make sure you have no vacumn leaks. Then you have to adjust the air/fuel mixture and idle. You can read up on using a vacumn guage to adjust these - I just adjusted idle to approx 700, adjusted the air/fuel for the highest idle, backed it down a quarter turn and re-adjusted the idle if needed.
Good luck!
