Ice Road Trucker lights on truck
#17
The design of the tractors is very unique, all the parts were meant to be able to be purchased anywhere such as Napa.
The cab tilts up to get to the trans. and if you have to remove the motor or trans. it is all on a frame that slides out of the main frame to the front of the tractor. Takes about 1 hour to remove. And that slide frame is the air tank for the shifter, air brakes and air horn. Only bad thing nothing is light. We have to use the boom truck or fork lift to remove almost everything except the fuel cap.. Dang radiator weighs around 500 lbs. Had to replace it 2 years ago. For a mere 3 grand.
Tire guy had a coranry fixing a flat last year..lol. Ea tire is half full of calcium for ballast. Steel fenders and tanks are 3/8" plate. the main frame is 1 and half steel. Draw bar is 4" thick and 8" wide. Can't even carry the hood without using forklift.
Surprisingly the alt. is only 75 amp. although large and heavy duty, running all the off road lights and ac. will drain the batterys that is why we are switching to the LED lights.
We need a spotter on ea. side to get it in the shop since we have only 3 inches of clearance on ea. side.
And when it is working hard it can burn 25 gallons of fuel an hour. But generally we can keep it around 11 gallons with the sandy soil here.
It does dwarf the John Deere articulating tractors when they park next to it..
