After frying the power supply in my main desktop, I finally have it's replacement up and running, and no longer running Windows. I now have an Compaq Presario with a 3.2ghz AMD chip running on Ubuntu Linux. It's so much fun getting to know this new OS, so much of the controls are far more intuitive and straightforward than Windows ever was.
The only downside is going in and having to modify some code to get certain things to run right, but not a big deal.

I run Ubuntu on our family/guest computer. Don't have to worry about people loading it up with viruses and malware

Ubuntu really is a great OS. Though I tend to prefer the derivatives of it, Linux Mint and Crunchbang.

While I'm no zealot, I really do prefer linux as a whole over any of the latest flavors of windows.

Ubuntu is Debian core - If you can't find what you want on the Ubuntu distributions, try the Debian ones. The last time I ran Linux, I ran Mepis - I liked it better than Ubuntu - A lot of it is personal preference and whether you want the GNOME desktop or the KDE desktop...

I typically don't use either the Gnome or KDE desktops. I tend to keep things minimal and usually go with XFCE, Fluxbox, or something similar. It reduces clutter and really seems to reduce the load placed on the computer by doing this.
