hello

hi all,
( thanks john) i'm alot better around the tool box than this key board..
i just got my truck yesterday, i have been told that it is a 1945 ford, but i have no idea how to find, or check the vin numbers, on the fire wall there is a ford tag that is stamped "KD".. from what i can see on this forum, it is either a 45,46.
and thats a guess.. i have been restoring early harleys for years and i thought i would give something new a try. i can see why you guys do this , these early trucks are cool as heck. i am excited about the project, have no idea which direction it will go in, but certainly need some help form you fellers...
so what do ya think...willing to guide the newbie? i put a pic of the truck in the album under my profile{ i think}

Nice looking truck you have, and some cool bikes.

It is doubtful that the truck is a 1945, I'm pretty sure that Ford trucks built during 1945 had to be big trucks, not pickups, but I could be wrong.

The serial number should be on the top of the driver side framerail close to where the steering box mounts. Here is a pic of where it is located. Inside the red outline is where the numbers are.

There is lots of knowledge here and I hope you have fun with your truck.

Jim, welcome to the boards. Hard to tell exactly the year, could be a '42-'47, although it look like you have the Ford script stamped in the hood sides, so most likely a '45-'47. The serial number should be in the areas noted. Easiest to find is the one on the driver's side frame rail. It will start with a star, and end with a star. The will tell you what we need to figure the year. If it still has the original trans in it, the serial will also be stamped on the bellhousing flange, between the top bolts, visiable when the floor plate is removed.
It could be a '45, they did make '45 1/2 ton pickups. It was in '44 that only heavy trucks were allowed to be made, in late '45 production of light duty trucks was allowed by government.

thanks for the help. i went over and checked the numbers on the frame rail. * 71GC-356589* what i have in that number as a dash is actually a double sided arrow.the G is at least twice as big as the C...
on the filler piece in front of the radiator very nicely hand painted is the following
-7GC-3 358S.
i pulled the floor plate and did not see any numbers on the tranny bell housing today. HOPE THIS HELPS... from what sources do you use to decode these numbers? jim
